LIC Housing Finance is raising its first VC fund of around Rs 500 Cr from Sept 2010. LICHF has appointed Arun Goel the former CEO of the VC arm of Dewan Housing Financial as the CEO of LIC Venture Fund.

2) United Phosphorus Acquires DuPont's Fungicide Business

United Phosphorus Ltd has acquired DuPont's fungicide business.The business includes the global non-mixture mancozeb fungicide business and related assets from DuPont and also includes existing inventory, manufacturing and formulation production facilities in the US.
The deal gives UPL the rights to register brands for non-mixture mancozeb products, trademarks, registration and supporting regulatory data for those products and would help to sell Manzate (fungicide) and its formulations to strengthen its fungicides business in South and Central American markets.

3) GTL Infra May Buy Stake in Reliance Infratel

GTL Infrastrucutre is planning to partner with Reliance Communications tower business Reliance Infratel for a strategic stake in the partnership.
If the partnership takes place as per rumour, then it plans to transfer the entire assets and liabilities of Reliance Infratel into another independent entity or a special purpose vehicle (SPV), in which GTL will hold 26% and will also have management control. While Anil Ambani group entities will hold 24% stake, with an understanding that their holding will not cross beyond 26%.

4) Hinduja BPO To Acquire Companies In US, UK

Hinduja Global Solutions Limited is looking to acquire outsourcing firms in US and UK as a part of its plans to deploy idle cash.
The company is negotiating with 2 companies, one each in US and UK for acquisition. The UK based entity has revenues in the range of Rs 170 Cr, while the US based company's revenues is in the range of Rs 1,000 Cr.

5) HSBC PE Invests Rs 50 Cr In Avitel Post Studioz Ltd

HSBC PE has invested Rs 50 Cr in Avitel Post Studioz Ltd from its HSBC Asian Ventures Fund 3 Ltd. As a part of the deal, James Savage - a director at HPEA, will join the board of Avitel.
Avitel intends to utilize the fund to establish an export oriented unit for animation and post production services. It will also use the funds to scale up its exisiting facilites and hire around 300 professionals over the next two years.

7) Godrej Acquires Argentina Based Argencos

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd has bought 100% stake in Argentinian hair care company Argencos for an undisclosed amount.This is Godrej's second acquisition in Latin in two weeks after it acquired Issue Group.GCPL is also holding talks with private equity majors such as Carlyle and Blackstone and some other private equity players for raising around Rs.600 Cr as part of its overall capital raising plans.
